FAMILY ADVENTURE ALONG THE MERAMEC

Experience a family adventure like no other in the St. Louis area.  Join us for a two-mile round-trip ride along the Meramec River on our 12 inch-gauge railroad behind live steam and real diesel engines.

Tickets for this season will go on sale in April 2025.  To accommodate more riders, we are selling tickets per person this year.  Each ticket will be $5 per person.

Watch this 2-minute video on how to buy tickets.

HOW TO BUY TICKETS

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS & IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • Train names are just our way of remembering past passenger service through the St. Louis area.  The only difference between them is departure time.

Passenger trains used to have unique names.  Amtrak has continued this with names such as Missouri River Runner from St. Louis to Kansas City.  We are keeping with this tradition by giving our trains unique names like the original passenger trains used to have.  We have included both historical route names as well as a few creative spinoffs of our own.  All trains take the same route.  The only difference is time of departure.

  • May - August tickets are $5 per person (children 0-3 years old are free)

This season, we are returning to selling tickets per person.  When purchasing a ticket, please indicate how many tickets you need for ages 4+ and how many for 0-3.  Upon arrival, please check in at the station.  You will then be directed to your train when it is ready to board.  Be sure to arrive no later than your scheduled boarding time on your ticket to ensure you don't miss your train!

  • If tickets are not available for a date or time, we are sold out for that train.

Although we would love to accommodate all dates and times for riders to join us, if the date or time you'd like to reserve is not available, it means we are already sold out for that train.  Check back on the website, though, because if people reschedule or cancel, the tickets will reappear online.

  • If you have extenuating circumstances that will require you to miss your train, please reach out to us as soon as possible.

If you need to cancel or reschedule your ticket due to extenuating circumstances, please contact us at admin@wfprr.org as soon as possible, and one of our volunteers will assist.  All rescheduling and refunds will be at the discretion of the WF&P. There may be a service charge applied to any cancelations to cover credit card processing fees.

Please note that undesirable weather is not an extenuating circumstance.  For the last 85 years, we have run rain or shine and will continue to do so.  However, in the case of extreme weather, or another event that causes the railroad to suspend operations, we will notify ticket holders with a promo code to be used to book tickets at a later date.

  • We have extremely limited walk-up seats available for our trains.

If you want to try and ride without an online reservation, we might have walk-up tickets available, which we only sell on a first-come, first-served basis on Sundays.  We cannot and do not offer any guarantee that they will be available.  For this reason, we highly recommend booking tickets online in advance or even checking online the day of your desired visit.

  • The WF&P will notify riders if operations are suspended due to extreme weather.

For the last 85 years our trains have run rain or shine, and we will continue to do so.  However, in the case of extreme weather (hail, lightning, etc.) or other event that causes the railroad to suspend operations, we will notify those ticket holders with a promo code that may be used to obtain tickets for a later date.  Only if the WF&P cancels a train due to weather do we provide weather-related rescheduling or refunds.

  • We do!  We love celebrating birthdays or other special events at the railroad.

If you would like to book a birthday party, it’s easy: simply reserve how many individual tickets you’ll need for the date you’d like.  There is a picnic area at the edge of the yard; however, we do not reserve this ahead of time and is on a first-come-first-served basis.  In the case you’d like to use the picnic area, we recommend arriving early in the day (around 10am).

We also have a limited number of Wednesday and Saturday times available for private groups.  Email admin@wfprr.org for details.

  • We are always happy to assist those with mobility or special needs.

Passengers with mobility issues or other needs should select “special loading access” on the information form when booking their ticket.  First select the number of tickets needed then click continue.  The Special Needs box is at the bottom left. This will notify the ticket booth ahead of time, so we can make appropriate arrangements prior to your arrival.  If you have any other questions or concerns, please send us an email at admin@wfprr.org

  • We do our best to run our steam locomotives as much as possible, but sometimes we must use a diesel instead.

Please note that while the WF&P is known for our steam engines, and we strive to provide rides with them whenever possible, we cannot guarantee what type of locomotive will be pulling your train on the day you ride.  We reserve the right to use either steam or diesel with or without notice before your train departs.  This can often be due to mechanical problems, crew availability (all crew are volunteers), and weather.  Just like any other railroad, we prioritize safety first!

Rest assured that your ride will still be a lot of fun either way.  Thank you for understanding.

  • Yes When we are open (Sundays only, May through October), we do have public restrooms available onsite located in the white 101 Grand Ave building across from the ticket booth.

For the rest of the time the City of Wildwood Parks Dept. has a public restroom located at Al Foster Trail Head Parking Lot for your use.

  • The train conductor will let you know when you can get on and off the train.

There are only two official places to get on/off the train.  At the station and at the end of the line once the train has come to a complete stop and the conductor indicates is is now safe.  Passengers are not to leave the train anywhere along the line  where we meet other trains.
